A COUPLE who transformed their “jungle” garden for free have been hammered by online trolls telling them they should have done better.
Sevda Cataltas shared on her popular TikTok page her efforts to improve the garden she previously felt “embarrassed” by.
They set to work cutting back overgrown grass in the back yard of their home in Stevenage, Hertfordshire – and seemed pleased with the results.
Yet critics have been nitpicking in comments below the 28-second clip she shared – with some suggesting the pair should have tried harder and provided more plants.
There was also criticism of a trampoline they have placed in the garden.
Sevda, who has 1.6million followers on TikTok, began the video by showing how the garden looked before they got going.
She can be heard saying: “This is our garden at the moment – it looks absolutely dreadful.
“It’s only small but we never seem to be able to look after it – so let’s get on with sorting this out.”
After speeded-up footage shows them carrying out the transformation, she enjoys showing off the results – telling viewers: “Now we can finally enjoy our little garden.”
In a caption accompanying the video on her TikTok page, she wrote: “Reality check if you think you have a forest in your garden.
“At least we have cleaned and tidied now.”
Yet some of the almost-300 comments posted in response suggested people were unimpressed.
One commenter urged: “Now you need to keep putting tender loving care to it and get some nice plants and decorate it.”
Someone else wrote, “Adding some flowers will make it look more lovely and happy looking” – while Sevda was also told: “Couple of pots with flowers would be nice.”
Another reviewer posted: “Put some plants in pots – it will bring the garden to life.”
And Sevda was even rebuked by one troll who exclaimed: “How can you not keep that tidy – that’s just laziness!”
Their were also complaints about their trampoline, with one saying: “You would have so much more space if you got rid of the trampoline.
“Maybe get a smaller one.”
Another said: “You should put the trampoline on the grass so you have more space.”
Yet many more were complimentary, with one saying: “A little hard work and a little sweat, and look at the difference – it’s huge.”
Another admirer said, “Well done the both of you – it looks lovely”, while there was also the remark: “Wow! You two did a wonderful job. It looks so much better.”
Sevda has built up an online following for the videos she shares, including clips of her packing lunches for her young daughter Ela.
Tips on improving gardens at a low cost have been shared this summer by a guru who runs two garden centres.
Another UK-based TikTok user revealed how she saved £21,000 on transforming her garden – while a DIY fan impressed with patio improvements for less than £100.
